Alchemy - the Secret of the Golden Flower

The Secret of the Golden Flower is a Chinese and Taoist treaty of alchemy printed for the first time in 18th-century after being transmitted orally for generations. It is thought to be the teachings of a great Taoist seer Lu-Tsu, who lived in the eighcentury.

Some books are both famous and inscrutable. The Secret of the Golden Flower is one of them. It was brought to the West by Richard Wilhelm in 1929, and has since been abundantly quoted in works written or translated into French. Gradually in France it has gained the aura of mystery and expectation that surrounds everything sacred, like a veil to shelter it from prying eyes.

The name of the Golden Flower is like the quest for the Holy Grail the longing it embodies is both sharp and undefined. It would be

a mistake to hold it in contempt and to file it away with other so-called poetic emotions. Actually, it is a gentle, persistent and finally inescapable pressure exercised in the hearts of men by the force of destiny, reminding us of our divine promise and its demands.

Alchimie - Le Secret de la Fleur d'Or

Le Secret de la Fleur d'Or est un traité alchimique chinois, taoïste, qui a été imprimé pour la première fois au XVIIIème siècle après avoir fait l'objet d'une longue transmission orale. C'est pense-t-on, l'enseignement du grand sage taoïste Lu-Tsou qui vivait au VIIIème siècle.

Il est des livres à la fois inconnus et célèbres. Le Secret de la Fleur d'Or est de ceux-là. Révélé à l'occident par Richard Wilhelm en 1929, il a été depuis abondamment cité dans des ouvrages composés ou traduits dans notre langue, et il s'est ainsi peu à peu créer autour de lui en France ce climat de mystère en d'attente qui entoure les choses sacrées tenue par un voile à l'abri des regards.

Le nom de la Fleur d'Or résonne en nous comme l'appel du graal. Il suscite une nostalgie d'autant plu poignante qu'elle est imprécise. Nous aurions tord de la traiter par le mépris et de la ranger au nombre des émotions dédaigneusement qualifiées de poétiques. Elle n'est autre en effet que la pression douce, insistante et parfois, pour finir, inéluctable qu'exerce dans le coeur de l'homme la force de son destin, l'invitant à se souvenir de sa vocation divine avec toutes les exigences qu'elle implique.
