Le Souverain Jaune se promenait au nord de la rivière couleur de feu. Il gravit le mont K'ouen-louen, et comme il se préparait à revenir vers le sud, il constata qu'il avait perdu "Perle sombre". Il la fit chercher par Intelligence qui ne la trouva pas; puis par Perspicacité qui ne la trouva pas; enfin par Analyse qui ne la trouva pas davantage. Ce fut finalement Sans image qui la trouva. Le Souverain Jaune se dit: N'est il pas étrange que ce soit Sans image qui ait pu la trouver ?

J'ai un Ami. Je le visite dans les solitudes, présent, même quand il se dérobe aux regards. Tu ne me verras pas Lui prêter l'oreille, pour recevoir son langage par bruit de paroles. Ses paroles n'ont ni voyelle, ni élocution, ni rien de la mélodie des voix. Mais c'est comme si j'étais devenu l'interlocuteur de moi-même, communiquant par mon inspiration avec mon essence, en mon essence. Présent, absent, proche, éloigné, insaisissable aux descriptions par qualité. Il est plus proche que la conscience pour l'imagination et plus intime que l'étincelle des inspirations.

I have a Friend. I visit him in solitude, in the present, even when he hides from my view. You'll never see me lending him an ear, to receive his language through speech. His speech has no vowels, no pronunciation, not even the melody of voices. It is as if I had become my own interlocutor, communicating by my inspiration with my essence, in my essence. Present, absent, near, far, impossible to describe with adjectives. He is closer than conscience for the imagination and more intimate than the spark of inspiration.
